Jan Buitendag is an ex-teacher, and now is a well-known farmer in Theunissen.
Classes are spread over a period of eight weeks, consisting of one session of approximately three hours each week, either in die morning or the afternoon, preferably on weekdays. Classes are presented in the Central Freestate within a radius of approximately 120 km from Theunissen, i.e. Hoopstad, Bothaville, Kroonstad, Senekal, Bloemfontein and centres closer to Theunissen. The sessions are held preferably at the home of an attendee or in a vestry or a staffroom at a school. Facilities for the use of an overhead projector are essential.
My wife and I attended a Parent Effectiveness Training (PET) course in 1984. What impressed us were the powerful communication skills that were presented and the logical framework according to which the course was structured. Our task of rearing children was considerably enhanced in that emotional tensions could easily be defused and meaningful solutions found in cases of conflict. Even our marital relationship improved!
I heartily recommend that both parents attend the course, if at all possible.
