Calmer Homes Start With One Small Shift

Calmer homes start with with one small shift. Here's ours.

What Parents Tell Us

"PET changed my life forever."

It's the sentence I hear more than any other from parents who've completed Parent Effectiveness Training, wherever in the world they've taken it. And after 25 years of walking alongside families as a parenting facilitator, I can tell you honestly: I've felt it myself, in my own home, with my own children.

That's not a marketing line. It's the reason I still do this work.

A Real, Lasting Shift

PET doesn't just calm things down for a week. It changes the relationship between parent and child, for good.

Homes where PET has taken root look different: there's mutual respect instead of a constant tug-of-war. Parents and children understand each other, rather than talking past one another. Problems get solved, and they stay solved, because the solution actually works for everyone. No one walks away feeling like they lost, not the parent, and not the child.

That's the promise of this course. Not perfect children. Not a quieter house for a night. A genuinely healthier relationship.

What Makes PET Different

Every ship at sea carries two instruments: a compass, and a sextant.

Most parenting courses hand you a compass. They're full of techniques for where to go next, what to say, what to do. But a compass is useless if you don't first know where you are. You can't chart a course from a position you haven't identified.

That's what our sextant is: the Behaviour Window. Before you can decide how to handle a moment with your child, you first need to know where you are in it, whether the behaviour is something you can accept, or something you can't. Once you know that, the compass, the actual skill, becomes obvious.

And here's the part that changes everything: whether a behaviour feels acceptable or unacceptable is almost always decided by our own needs in that moment, not by some fixed rule about right and wrong. Once a parent can name the need underneath their reaction, and hear the need underneath their child's behaviour, something shifts. That's where mutual understanding actually begins.

Come and See for Yourself

Reading about it is one thing. Sitting in the room is another.
